About Us - Membership in CSAP

About Us

The California State Association of Parliamentarians (CSAP) is the California division of the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF PARLIAMENTARIANS (NAP). Members of NAP who live in California are members of CSAP. They may choose to be members of NAP Units; those who do not are called Members at Large (MALs).

Units are divisions of NAP, usually consisting of five or more members in a local area. For convenience in holding educational meetings more often than annually, CSAP is sub-divided into three Areas (Pacific, Sierra, and Southern). CSAP is governed by its Officers and Board of Directors, elected by the members at the Annual Meetings. (More information on Units, Areas, and CSAP's Officers is available via the sub-menu links of the Organization and Areas menus.)

NAP and its divisions are 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations formed for the purpose of studying, teaching, and promoting the rules of deliberative assemblies. CSAP also serves to bring into closer cooperation the parliamentarians of the State of California. The Parliamentary Authority studied and used by NAP and its divisions is the latest edition of Roberts Rules of Order Newly Revised (RONR).

All interested persons are welcome and encouraged to become members of CSAP (by first becoming members of NAP). If you are interested, there is more information in the lower table on this page.

Membership in CSAP

To become a member of CSAP/NAP you must pass a membership examination on basic parliamentary procedure, based on a portion of the latest edition of Roberts Rules of Order Newly Revised in Brief. For more information on becoming a member, click here or get in contact with any CSAP member. (Several are listed with email addresses and phone numbers on various pages of this website.)

NAP provides an online, interactive, self-scoring study aid for learning basic parliamentary procedure. It is available free to all interested persons, and many have found it very helpful in their study of parliamentary procedure.
